This just goes to show even as recent as the 1990s, the negative effects of colonialism are still felt and are very much still present. This is why teaching history is so important, and why the efforts of conservatives in the USA to censor education about slavery and colonialism is dangerous. If people don’t learn from their past, it is doomed to repeat itself. The Rwanda genocide should be tugs by internationally, and be used as a lesson for everyone so no one repeats what happened in Rwanda. Unfortunately we are seeing some of the stages of the ten stages of genocide in modern times, with things like Uyghur Muslims being sent to concentration camps in China or what is happening in Gaza, with even a US senator saying that palestinian children should die and calling for people to “kill them all”.
